What's the Best Amazon Launch Strategy for Supplements?
Here's our 5-Step Launch Playbook for launching & ranking supplements on Amazon.
I have been launching products on Amazon for over 10 years, and I've boiled it down to this key framework. If you don't have all of these pieces dialed in, you will find it hard to get traction
Step 1) High Converting Product Page
  • You've created a great product. Now it's time to SELL it.
  • Make sure you work with a copywriter and graphic deisgner that specialize in Amazon and know how to SELL
  • My creative team amazingcreative.io can handle your graphic design & copywriting needs. We specialize in high converting product pages and storefronts.
Step 2) Get 30 Reviews Fast
After launching tons of supplements, we've found that when we get our first 30 reviews in the 30 days, it tends to be a good launch. Without getting initial reviews fast in 30 days (at least 10 minimum), then your conversion rate will suck and you won't get traction.
  • Do 20 reviews via Amazon Vine
  • Do 20 reviews via a product tester site (We use fbareviews.com - ask for a discount code)
Step 3) Start on Sale 🏷
A common mistake we see is when companies launch on Amazon at their regular price. We've found after launching tons products that in order to get traction, it's essential to start on sale.
  • Start at a heavy discount
  • 50% off week 1-2, 40% off week 3-4, 30% off week 50-6, 20% off until you have satisfactory rank
  • A/B test prices over time
Step 4) Amazon PPC Blast 💳
  • Start aggressive
  • $100/day budget to start gathering data
Step 5) Send External Traffic 📣 (Optional)
  • Optional if needed for extra rank boost: Giveaway/rebate campaign via Rebaid.com
  • Existing email list & social followers. If you have them, let them know.
Creative Strategy
Creative 🖌
  • TL;DR: Be sure to invest as much as you can in making your pages look like a million bucks.
  • Keep in mind: for every 1% higher conversion rate, you will make an extra $10,000 a month (for example).
  • This means:
  • Get professional photography
  • Get professional videos
  • Get a professional branding expert
  • Get a professional copywriter
  • Get a professional graphic desiger
  • If you don't have branding done yet, you'll need that first. See below for my recommendations.

Why is Organic Rank Important?
Did you know that Amazon is the largest serach engine in the world, after Google & YouTube?
Ranking high on page 1 is the whole game of Amazon.
Around 70% of sales happen in the top 20. This is the game we're playing.
This is the system we install in our client's businesses.
How The Amazon Ranking Algorithm Works
How high you rank is basically a factore of how well you convert, and how many units you've sold in the past 180-days. So that's why you want to push hard for sales in the first 6 months.
Also, to rank high on page 1, you need to have enough FBA inventory to support that, or the algorithm won't allow you to rank there.

Selling Supps on Amazon: What to Know
What to know when launching your supplements company on Amazon – best strategies, tips & tricks, things to avoid.
About Us: Riley Bennett Ryan Logan – Having worked with tons of supplements companies, we've seen what it takes to be successful. We write this guide to help you know the reality of what to expect, what it takes, and how to maximize chances of success.

Here are some strategy notes that we sent to supplement clients. If you have specific questions, feel free to reach out.
General Pro Tips
  • Product research to find the right product and also the right timeline for launch - needs to be during the seasonal pickup in search volume for that product.
  • Product needs to have USP and competitive price.
  • Research should also include weight, size of product and also cost per capsule or cost per oz comparisons as we have seen this be effective in launch.
  • Design needs to be more for Amazon audiences - a mix of attractiveness, but with an emphasis in search term resonance. 80% emphasis on Search term resonance and 20% branding for design.
  • If it has a flavor, it needs to taste good. If it does not taste good it will die on Amazon.
  • Include something about “How do I know it’s working?” If you can even include something in the ingredients that can help with an immediate result, even if it’s placebo, then that is great salesmanship.
  • Get strategic with the storytelling, messaging, and copywriting
  • The "3 bottle rule" in photos: Never show the bottle more than 3 times in the gallery. The main image counts as 1. People don't care about the bottle – sell them on the product!
How should I think about the first 1-2 years?
Think about the first 1-2 years as building your store. The best launch strategy is to aim for a breakeven point for year 1. If you hit that, you're in a good spot. Many Amazon brands, and especially supplements brands, are not profitable in year 1. This is also true with most startup businesses. This is because aggressive pricing, promotinos & PPC is needed to secure a position on page 1, and to build up reviews to a point where it's comparable with competitors.
How long does it take to hit big revenue on Amazon?
Launch to growth: think 1-2 years and probably around $100,000 of ad spend as the deepest point of an S-Curve.
The goal is to find the products that will do the best for your brand on Amazon and then to scale and grow year over year data.
Typically ¼ or 1/5 products will actually get traction.
Eventually you will be operating at a TACOS that makes sense for the brand and you can consistently succeed in.
Subscribe & Save – What to Know
Subscribe & Save (also referred to as S&S, SnS, or SNS) is an important part of successfully selling supplements on Amazon. Here are some things to know.
  1. You will usually get S&S access in the first couple months.
  1. It takes 12 months from S&S being unlocked for an account to see the Lifetime Value of Customer data.
  1. Utilize strategic S&S discounts
  1. Utilize strategic S&S coupons
  1. "How to get the second sale" vs "other product sales"
  1. Retargeting coupons
  1. Average non-subscriber orders 2-4 times a year
  1. Average subscriber orders 4-6 times a year
  1. A good repurchase rate is
This chart above shows the growing # of subscribers YoY.
Average Revenue per Subscriber vs Non-Subscriber: 1.5x is Good. 1.9x is Great.
Other things to know
Inventory Limits on New Products
There are inventory limite new launched products and brands with no sell through data (this gets unlocked as your account shows good inventory management.)
  1. 5000+ unit limit is common now. But that goes down if it's slow moving.
  1. Typically sending in 500-1000 unitially per product is fine for the first few months of launch.
  1. Be ready to send in more inventory as needed.
It takes time to build up enough volume to get in the top 10-20
Ideally you are shooting for the top 10-20 organic placements. Even if you get some good market share out the gate, Amazon sees it as mere drops in the ocean compared to the bigger brands. It takes time to show Amazon that you have an audience here and you can actually compete.
The Cost of Testing
The cost of testing out the top placement advertisements and getting volume of sales here - AKA advertising funds at an obvious short term loss without knowing repurchase rate yet.
  1. Top of Search placements
  1. Rest of Search placements
  1. The purpose of ads at launch is to gather data. We are spending in Top of Search to gather data FAST and see how it performs.
Be Aware of Potential Shifts in the Market
The supplement space is very trendy and can be changed almost over night by the right influencer and celebrity trends and “new secrets”.
  1. On Amazon sometimes an entire category can be changed by something as simple as the introduction of a 60 count when everyone is a 30 count.
Affiliate and influencer marketing:
Many times influencers will wait to pick up a product until they themselves see that it works for them and that it helps a variety, or specialty group of people. Amazon reviews do help them understand what their audience can come to expect. Offer a 20-30% commission minimum.
Influencers for UGC videos and photos. The goal is to get video content that you can splice together for video or display ads.
  • Get a least 3 because some will be good, others bad
  • Ideally whwat you want long term is genuine customer testimonials from real customers
Try to Get Emails
Especially if you are going to be doing multiple product launches over several years, having an email harvesting and audience warming system helps during new product launches and even some “pre-launches”. You can use these to create a Amazon DSP Ads lookalike audience - this is powerful & highly effective to scale.
Questions to Ask at R&D Phase
Here are the strategies to either overcome or embrace these challenges (Since obviously some of these are not able to be broken through but absorbed as part of the experience to scale)
What type of a brand do you want to be?
  • Who is your target customer avatar
What type of price do you want to be?
  • Value brand vs premium brand
Do you have a way of differentiating?
  • The more differentiated, the better it will sell and higher you can charge
Price, count, size - These should reflect your strategy and your brand.
COGS - You need to recognize that your COGS will get better with bigger and bigger orders. Don’t lose sight of what your at-scale COGS will be when sales are low. If you can eventually get to volume you can recoup costs then or on future purchases.
What to Know Regarding Reviews
Review Count & Rating
Think of of you # of reviews, and star rating as a reference to the customer experience and social proof.
  1. The first 1-2 years about building up reviews.
  1. If reviews are bad, you need to fix the product.
Listen to the Reviews
We are all about review strategies and even giveaways being used to increase review count, but not to change the ratio of the ratings (This is important!!!). Yes, some reviews are fake from competitors or from the person that no one can ever please. But over time you will get enough feedback to understand that your audience is getting the right experience or if your formulation needs to be changed.
Have a review system in place for getting more reviews if possible (we use Helium10), but you must not incentivize a review manipulation until we are sure that feedback is spot on. After that, I believe there is nothing ethically wrong with increasing reviews using alternative strategies so long as the customer experience is the same as that received by the organic reviews.
PPC Strategies
  • Top of search advertising - We need to know what CTR and CVR is for obtaining a sale. Once we have those numbers we can estimate growth based on other factors of LVC and so on. But if you don’t have the lead gen numbers, then you can’t make growing projections. Our goal over 6 months is to spend consistently at the locations that will give us these numbers to justify inserting additional advertising funds. Especially since all first sales will start at a loss when using advertising.
  • Sponsored Brand Video - Be sure to test & utilize this.
  • Sponsored Brand Banner - Be sure to test & utilize this.
  • Sponsored Product Top of Search - Be sure to test & utilize this.
How can I scale beyond Amazon?
Amazon search volume has a cap. To scale a product beyond, you'll need external traffic sources.
  • Amazon DSP - this is both top of funnel and retargeting.
  • Facebook/Instagram
  • Google

Mindset & Expectations
When launching your supplements company on Amazon.
Here are some bullet points that we frequently discuss with supplement companies in terms of what to expect going into Amazon.
  • Many supplement brands know they can pay a high CPC to acquire a customer because of the high LTV. Because of this, CPCs are very high for supplements.
  • Many savvy Amazon brands aim to break even in year 1, then optimize for profit in year 2, 3, 4, etc.
  • Expect CPCs to be high
  • Expect over 100% ACOS during launch phase. This is normal.
  • A break-even year 1 is a success.
  • Your mindset for year 1 is to build REVIEWS and RANKING.
  • Know your LTV.
  • Do the Amazon market research: know what similar competitors are making.
  • The BIG MONEY is in Subscribe & Save
  • Amazon automatically enrolls you in this when you have enough sales velocity and FBA inventory. That could mean any number of months after you launch.
  • Many supplement products to $100,000-$1,000,000 a month in revenue.
  • Be prepared to have year 1 be an investment. This means not profitable yet. Don't think of it as losing money – it's investing in Amazon real estate.
  • Expect to have the product temporarily suspended for flagged keywords. This is very common and normal. Just fix the issue. The algorithm can be weird and there’s no 100% fool-proof way to completely avoid being flagged. It happens for most products.
  • The more unique the product, the better it will perform.
  • Long-term, the market will decide who deserves to stay on page 1.
  • Launch more products! The big money will be in a large catalog.
Launch Cost Estimates
What kind of budget will I need to create & launch a brand from scratch?
I get asked this a lot, so here the napkin math.

Product Research & Development
This is the most important step. Make sure you do proper research & development. This is where the money is made. Costs for this vary depending on if you're doing it yourself or outsourcing it. Think around $10k-50k.
Inventory Costs
This ranges a lot depending on the product and how many units you order. For most products under $50 retail, you'll want to start out with 1000-5000 units. In terms of cost for your first order, think 5k at a very minimum, more realistically 10-50k, including packaging.
Branding
If you want to compete with top brands, you'll want to invest in a premium Branding Agency to make your brand look like a Million Dollar Brand. What is branding? Logo, brand name, product name(s), color scheme, fonts, look & feel, brand identity, customer avatar, packaging design, etc. Think around 3k a minimum, and ideally invest in the most expensie branding agency you can afford - because the more amazing your branding is, the more customers will buy!
Professional E-Com Branding Agencies typically range from 5-20k depending on the package. This is a no-brainer one-time upfront investment that is a killer ROI – good branding from the get-go is something that will reap rewards for 10+ years. At Amazing Creative, we are offering Compelte Branding Packages for select brands.
Photoshoot
Your photoshoot will be the bedrock of your brand, your Amazon pages, and your website – for years to come. If you want to be a Million Dollar Brand, think around 3-5k for a photoshoot. Ask for a recommendation.
Videos
You already know that videos are extremely important in e-commerce. You'll want to get 3 kinds of videos from the jump.
  • 1) a Main Video - this is like your commercial - put it as video #1 on your listing, and front & center on your A+ and Storefront.
  • 2) a UGC compilation video.
  • 3) a longform video – 5-10 minutes of someone (you!) just talking all about the product. This works wonders.
Shopify Website
You should get a professionally designed Shopify website. Think around 3k at a minimum. If you want to look like a Million Dollar Brand, think 5-20k to have your Shopify created by a professional Shopify Design Agency. This could be the same agency as your branding agency.
Amazon Product Page
If you want to outsell your comeptitors, on Amazon, don't you think that your listing should look as good or better than theirs? Yes. So make sure you get your product pages written and designed by an Amazon expert to ensure your pages look like you're a Million Dollar brand.
A common mistake I see is when brands spend 50K on startup costs then spend $1000 to someone on Fiverr to design their Amazon page. Big mistake! When it comes to products page design, remember this mantra: "Cheap is expensive, and expensive is cheap!"
This is becayse for every 1% improvement in CVR, you'll make an extra $10,000 per year, for example. So by investing in a Million Dollar Page will easily pay for itself because it will convert much higher for years to come. At Amazing Creative we specialize in desiging high-convering Premium A+ product pages. Or as I call them, "Conversion Pages".
Think around 3k per product page for a professional designer. Whoever you choose, here are some questions to ask your designer: Do they specialize in Amazon? Are they a copywriter, or just a graphic desinger? Make sure the copy, headlines, and infographics are written a professional copywriter! This is arguable more important than the visuals! They must know how to SELL the product, and the exact sales pitch that you're going for. On Amazon, a USP-based sales pitch converts best – focusing on your Unique features/benefits, and how you are different from your closest 3-5 competitors.
Amazon Storefront
Your Amazon Storefront is like your second website. Make sure it looks like a millinon bucks. Think around 3k. This should be done by the same expert/agency designing your product pages.
Amazon Management Agency
If you want to outsource the management of your store (Setup, PPC, SEO, Seller Central, Inventory etc). If you want a US-based agency, most good agencies charge around 2.5-5k/mo for ongoing management.
Here are some questions to consider when shopping for an Amazon agency: Are consulting calls included and how often exactly? Who is my account manager, are they US-based? Is creative included in the management fee or is it per-project? (I've seen that when an agency offers free unlimited creative it's usually done by a Junior graphic designer and is very mediocre, so I don't recommend that). Do they charge a percentage of revenue/profit/adpsend? How many clients does the account manager have?
Amazon PPC Ads
We typically start at $100/day and adjust from there. This varies a lot based on keyword competition. Breaking even on ads can take 6-12 months. Think around 3-5k/mo per product that you want to push. That's around 20k-60k set aside for advertising.
The Best Amazon Launch Strategy
Is shooting for a breakeven point for year 1. If you hit that, you’re in a pretty good spot.

Supplements Growth Hacks for Amazon
Subscribe & Save Coupon Hack
Subscribe & Save coupons! They are our favorite marketing feature since Subscribe & Save came out!
These are a huge opportunity for sellers. These coupons give shoppers an additional discount on their FIRST eligible S&S order.
This hack is similar to the Subscribe & Save discount hack, but instead you are using a Subscribe & Save Coupon. Try this out when you want to push for rank!

Here's how it works. Turn on a S&S coupon to revive sales for slow-moving products. Start with a low discount like 10% and increase it every 1-2 weeks – monitor results and rank.
S&S Coupon Campaign to Push Rank & Subscribers
The higher discount, the more sales you’ll get, thus the higher you’ll rank. Remember as always, pay close attention to inventory.

Case study: We were able to rank for this client’s supplement product on page 1 in a super competitive niche by implementing a stratetic 40% off SnS coupon.
Hack to get more Subscribe & Save orders
Add a Subscribe & Save call to action image in the gallery images and A+ content! Below is a good example from our client. Make sure it’s large and glanceable.
Pro tip: You can also mention the S&S discount in your videos – but don’t mention a specific amount in videos because that can change.
Say something like “and you can get an amazingly sweet deal via Subscribe & Save on Amazon! Just click order Subscribe & Save!
Insert Card Hack
  • Using an insert card will do 2 things
  • Build your email list
  • Get you a higher review rate
  • The highest converting CTA is: “Scan here for a FREE bottle.”
  • I found this tool Getreviews.ai that automates the whole flow. The QR code, the survey, asking for a review, delivering the free gift, and connecting so your email list.
For more details, watch this.
Hack to get more than 30 reviews in 30 days
When Vine reviews aren't enough, the next best way to get fast reviews is via product tester sites. They work similar to Vinel, just via a 3rd party. We have used fbareviews.com for a while now with success.
Step 1) Click on Verified Reviews.
Step 2) Select the package you want
Step 3) Follow the instructions to get set up
10% discount code: fba-rev-10
Hack to Remove Negative Reviews
When you see a review that is legitimately fraudulent or fake for any reason, you can submit a case to try to get it removed. It doesn’t always work, but there are some tips & tricks to maximize your chances.
There are multiple steps, so I'll leave a link below to our full SOP on how to remove negative reviews: SOP | How to Remove Negative Product Reviews on Amazon
2-Pack Hack
This simple hack can boost profits by 10% overnight.
It's simple: For your your best selling products, try adding a 2-pack variation option.
Often shoppers like to buy 2-packs if it’s a good deal, price-wise. Often you can offer a 2-pack for a good deal because of shipping cost savings. Many savvy Amazon brands are doing this.
Benefits:
  • More revenue
  • More profit
At the end of the day, by having the 2-pack option, about 10-20% of shoppers will choose this option, and you will end up having higher revenues, and higher profits.
How to: You’ll need to create a fresh ASIN Variation for the 2-pack. Your warehouse will need to package 2 units into a 2-pack and ship it to FBA that way. This can be done by simply putting 2 units into a larger box or poly bag and shipping it in that way.
Pro-tip: Test different price points and keep what’s makes sense (as always).
Case Study: I added a 2-pack of my product and I wish I did it sooner! Now it accounts for about 25% of our profits, and it boosted overall profits by about 10%!
Hack to Get More Vine Reviews

Update May 2025 – We've noticed that this does not work anymore.
This is a hack to get more than the maximum 30 Vine reviews if you are launching a product with multiple variations.
Step 1) Keep the variations separate at launch. Enroll each one in 10, 20 or 30 Vine reviews.
Step 2) Wait for the all of the reviews to come in. This can take 2-6 weeks.
Step 3) Combine the variations into one parent family. Boom! Now you have more than 30 Vine reviews under the parent.

TL;DR: split test your main image! If you don't you'll be leaving good $$ on the table. Try this out for all products, starting with your bread & butter products. There's no downside from testing this.
For some products, sales can improve by up to 50% simply by improving the main image. This simple hack can make you an extra $10,000 a year, for example.
1
Step 1: Create Alternates
Get your graphic designer to create 3-5 alternate main images. This takes research & creative thought.
2
Step 2: Run first A/B Test
Go to Manage Your Experiments in SC. Run a 4-week test vs main image B.
3
Step 3: Repeat 2-3x
Great! Now test the winner vs the next one. Repeat for 2-3 more rounds or until you’ve tested all of your ideas.
4
Enjoy Better Results
Results will be better. Now you know that your main image has been thoroughly optimized for the long term.
Hack to Increase FBA Storage Limits
1
2
Step 2) Submit a request
It will you ask you for details and how much space you want, and when.
3
Step 3) Wait for approval
Whether you get approved or not depends on a variety of factors – and there are fees associated. But do know that this is available at your disposal.
Double Discount Hack
Try this out when you want to boost sales & rank. Activate a sale price and a coupon on at the same time. Now you have a red badge and a green badge simultaneously – this catches attention and gets more clicks.
Coupon Ladder Hack
Try this hack to revive sales for slow-moving products, and/or when to pushing for rank.
Start with a low discount like 10% and increase it every 1-2 weeks – monitor results and rank. You need to start with the low discount because coupons need to be the lowest price in 30-days to work. As always, Amazon changes these rules from time to time, so look up the latest info.
Here is a schedule framework to follow:
Percent Discount
Dollar Discount
Remember, the higher discount, the more sales & rank you’ll get. You are investing in building back up sales velocity, which will rank you higher and get you more organic sales. You can’t try to push rank and optimize for profit at the same time.
Hack to Unlock Premium A+ Content
This is a hack to unlock Premium A+ content, which allows you to add video modules.
Step 1: Activate Brand Story
Make sure Brand Story is activated for all ASINs (if you don’t have this yet, just whip up a temporary basic one). You must be Brand Registered for this, of course.
Step 2: Submit 5 Small A+ Changes
The second requirement is you need to have sure you have "at least 5 regular A+ content approvals in the last 12 months."
Here's the hack around this.
Step 1) Just make a tiny change on one A+ content listing (e.g. add an extra space somewhere) and then submit it for approval.
Step 2) Duplicate & make a small change on that version
Step 3) Repeat the same process 4 times.
Step 4) Come back in 7 days, and there should be a button inviting you to create Premium A+ Content!

"What if I don’t have any A+ content yet?" Just add one module of A+ content on one product (e.g. a text module). After it’s approved, do step 2.
NEW! Shoppable A+ Content Hack
This is basically a new A+ module where you can compare your own products, and it shows the price review rating summary and add to cart.
The hack
Step 1: Go to Premium A+ → Edit
Step 2: Add a Shoppable Comparison Chart Module
Step 3: Add your other products.
Step 4: Add relevant information in the table that would make sense!
Use Huel as a good example
Inventory Planning Hack
Use Helium 10 Inventory Management tool. It’s easier to use than Seller Central. Just set your lead time for each product and it alerts you when to order more, and how much. That being said, make sure you double check everything yourself and think about seasonality. Inventory is a very important part of your business so don’t rely 100% on software. It’s just a tool to make your life easier.
Helium 10 is a must – it's the gold standard all-in-one tool. It’s the main tool we use in our agency - it’s got all the tools in one place. It’s generally considered the best all-in-one software out there. Use RILEY10 for 10% off for life ($120 per year value).
Us vs Them Hack
Adding a comparison chart can significantly improve CVR. Remember, Amazon is a comparison shopping platform. This is one of the most common low-hanging fruit things that I recommend to brands all the time, in terms of how to improve conversion rate overnight.
Tips & tricks
  • Make it specific, simple, easy to read
  • Compare to specific leading brands (you can blur out their logo)
  • Show it better than tell
The below examples do a good job of showing the difference.

1000 Fastest Growing Supplement Niches on Amazon
Are you searching for your next profitable product? Would you like to know the 1000 fastest growing supplements search terms on Amazon? Well I did the research for you and put together a spreadsheet of exactly this. This sheet will save you countless hours of research. The data is current. You can have instant access to my Google Sheet for a very low price.
Supplements FAQ
How long will it take to be profitable?
  • It can take a while to build up rank and reviews to the point where you can get lots of sales at your target price. A good strategy is to shoot for break-even in year 1 while your build up R&R.
What kind of investment will I need?
  • Depends on many things like # of products, market competition, and product uniqueness.
How many units will I need?
  • Typically 1000-5000 units is the minimum you’d want to start with for a new product launch. This depends on the market size and how aggressive your launch game plan is.
What is the market size potential?
  • Many supplement products to $100,000 a month and even $1,000,000 a month in revenue.
What should I expect in terms of CPCs?
  • Expect CPC to be high
  • Many supplement brands know they can pay lots to acquire a customer because of high LTV
How long should I expect until I turn a profit?
  • Many savvy Amazon brands aim to break even in year 1, then optimize for profit in year 2, 3, 4, 5
  • A break-even year 1 is a success.
  • Your mindset for year 1 is to build REVIEWS and RANKING.
  • Know your LTV
  • Be prepared to have year 1 be an investment. This means not profitable yet. In the red. (Is it ‘losing money’, or investing?)
How much do I need to invest in Amazon Ads?
  • It varies a ton depending on how competitive your keywords are. If you want to rank on page 1, the low end expect at least $200/day for most niches, and that can scale up to $500/day or $1,000/day for super competitive/big markets such as ‘melatonin gummies’ or ‘ACV supplement’.
  • A good ACOS for an aggressive launch/rank campaign is 80-130%
  • Typically for the launch phase, an 80% ACOS means we’re not pushing hard enough.
What should I know before developing a new product?
  • Do the Amazon market research: know what similar competitors are making
  • The BIG MONEY is in Subscribe & Save
  • Amazon automatically enrolls you in SnS when you have enough sales velocity and FBA inventory. That could mean any number of months after you launch.
The big money will come from expanding the lineup.
Compliance
How to Get Approved to Sell Supplements (NEW Approval Rules)
Wondering what you need to get approved for selling in the dietary supplements category on Amazon? Below are the steps.

The hack here is to get approved fast is this: Have your ducks lined up AHEAD of time! Get your GMP and COA testing done ASAP as soon as you have a sample of the final product ready. That way, as soon as you add the product in SC, you can submit those documents, and get approved as fast as possible.
Compliance Rules
  • Testing must be done through Eurofins, NSF or UL
  • All new products need this
  • Existing products - you'll get a notification if action is needed
  • This is done in Manage My Compliance Dashboard

Update April 2024: Amazon requires that you go through Eurofins, NSF or UL.
Step 1) Add products in Seller Central
Here's what you'll need to create the product
  • UPC/GTIN barcodes for each SKU
  • Preferred SKU
  • You make this up yourself. Use a system that identifies the product and variation. Eg. VITC200MG90CT
  • Item dimensions & weight
  • The bottle
  • Package dimensions & weight
  • If it's packaged in a box
  • Main image
  • Use a temporary one - you can change it later
  • Product title & information
  • Use a temporary info - you can change it later
What you'll need
With the above info, you should be able to save the product with temporary info. Then, you will get a nofication to provide further information for category approval.
  • Real-world images of the product on all sides (bottle) (taken with a phone, on a table
  • Real-world images on all sides, packaged (if it’s packaged in a box)
  • COA
  • cGMP certificate
  • GS1 certificate of brand
  • GTIN certificate (showing barcode)
  • Trademark number or filing reference if you don’t currently have the trademark
After adding the products, you will be prompted to provide approval documents.
You will need to provide the following documents for each supplement product you want to sell. Prepare these things ASAP ahead of time because testing takes time.

From Amazon:
  • You need a finished product Certificate of Analysis (COA) of declared dietary ingredients issued by an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory or in-house laboratory located in the above facility that is compliant with current GMPs.
  • The COA must include the product name, batch number, test results, and test methods for each ingredient claimed on the supplement facts panel.
  • Sometimes, Amazon requires that the COA include a toxicity report on certain elements.
  • OR: If you already have one of these, you don’t need the GMP & COA. Evidence of product enrollment or participation in one of the following third-party quality certification programs: NSF/ANSI 173 Product Certification, NSF Certified for Sport®, BSCG Certified Drug Free®, Informed-Choice/Informed-Sport Program, USP Dietary Supplement Verification Program, or UL Brand Certification Program
  • Photos of the product: You'll need to show photos that show all 6 sides of the product label, clearly showing the product name and the name and address of the brand owner or manufacturer. Use a phone, put the product on a table.

This is an example of the 6 photos of each side of the bottle.
  • Purchase order from the manufacturer. Amazon needs to see this for verification. It can be any recent purchase order from a product.

Note: There is no way to hack around or skip the testing steps. Make sure you are prepared.
Step 2) Submit for Testing
How to Request Lab Service
Amazon now requires that you go through Eurofins or NSF for COA testing – and this is done through Seller Central. Get this proces started ASAP because it can take a while. Here's how.

Step 4:
When testing is done, you'll see the results in Manage My Compliance.
"If you fail to complete testing, listings may be removed."
Amazon receives a test result that confirms compliance, your product will be eligible for sale on Amazon.

Amazon Prohibited/Restricted Terms [AMC TEMPLATE]

Sheet1 Last Updated: There are certain words and terms that Amazon doesn’t allow sellers to use within their listings. Unfortunately, Amazon does not publish a list of these restricted words or terms, but we do our best to keep a running list here and update it regularly. Must NOT Use,Caution — ...

5. Monitoring and Reporting Safety Concerns
  • Implement a system for monitoring and reporting adverse reactions and other safety concerns related to your products.
  • Report serious adverse events to the FDA using the MedWatch form.
6. Resources for Compliance

This checklist serves as a starting point for ensuring your dietary supplements meet legal and Amazon platform-specific requirements. It’s essential to conduct thorough research and possibly consult with legal experts in dietary supplement regulations to fully comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
Labeling Requirements
Principal Display Panel (PDP)
  • Product Identity: Clearly state the product as a dietary supplement (e.g., "Dietary Supplement" or "Herbal Supplement").
  • Net Quantity of Contents: Indicate the total amount of the supplement in the container, using weight, volume, or numerical count.
  • Brand Name: Include the brand name under which the supplement is sold.
Information Panel
  • Supplement Facts Panel:
  • List all ingredients in the product, including active and inactive components.
  • Display the serving size, the number of servings per container, and the amount per serving size of each nutrient or dietary ingredient.
  • Percent Daily Values (%DV) should be listed for those nutrients for which the FDA has established daily values.
  • Ingredient List:
  • List all ingredients not already included in the Supplement Facts panel. This includes the parts of the plant from which herbal supplements are made and the form of any proprietary blends.
  • Ingredients must be listed in descending order by weight.
  • Manufacturer/Distributor Information:
  • Provide the name and address of the manufacturer, packer, or distributor. This information assures consumers of the product's origin and provides a contact point for inquiries.
  • Allergen Statement (if applicable):
  • If the product contains any major food allergens (milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans), it must be clearly stated on the label.
Additional Labeling Considerations
  • Directions for Use: Include recommendations for consumption or use, specifying the amount, frequency, and manner in which the supplement should be taken.
  • Warning and Caution Statements:
  • Any potential side effects, interactions with medications, or risks associated with the supplement should be clearly stated.
  • Include warnings for specific groups if there are known risks (e.g., pregnant or breastfeeding women, individuals with certain health conditions).
  • Expiration Date:
  • While not mandated by the FDA, including an expiration or best-by date is considered a best practice. It informs consumers of the time frame in which the product is expected to remain effective.
  • QR Codes or URLs:
  • Providing a QR code or a URL that links to more detailed product information, including research, detailed ingredient sourcing, or third-party lab test results, can enhance consumer trust and transparency.
  • Claims and Disclaimers:
  • If making any structure/function claims, they must be accompanied by the FDA's standard disclaimer: "This statement has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease."
  • Ensure claims are truthful, not misleading, and substantiated.
Compliance Verification
  • Proofreading: Double-check your label for compliance with FDA regulations and Amazon’s policy before printing or applying it to your products.
  • Consultation: Consider consulting with a regulatory expert or legal advisor specializing in dietary supplements to review your labels for compliance.

Amazon Supplements Policies

Dietary supplements covered by this policy
In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates the manufacturing, packaging, storing, and labeling of dietary supplements under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, and its subsequent amending statutes, including the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act.
The FDA defines a dietary ingredient as a vitamin, mineral, herb, or other botanical, amino acid, or dietary substance used to supplement the diet by increasing the total dietary intake; or a concentrate, metabolite, constituent, extract, or combination of the preceding substances intended for human consumption. Dietary supplements come in different forms such as powders, pills, capsules, liquid drops, and oral sprays. They include, but are not limited to, categories such as vitamins and minerals and herbs and botanicals; and they can be marketed for functions such as sexual enhancement, weight management, bodybuilding, sports nutrition, and joint health.
Dietary supplements must not make disease claims or contain undeclared drug ingredients or articles that are approved as new drugs.
Our policy for dietary supplements
We require you to verify that dietary supplement products meet our policy via third-party testing on an annual basis to ensure products offered in our store meet the following criteria:
  • Products do not contain contaminants that may pose a human health or regulatory concern
  • Products contain the ingredients claimed on the product label
  • Products do not contain undeclared active pharmaceutical ingredients
  • Products are labeled according to guidelines set forth by the FDA and do not contain illegal or disease claims
Dietary supplements products identified as being affected by this initiative can be found within the Manage Your Compliance dashboard.
* For products where testing has already been conducted by an ISO 17025 accredited lab (including in-house labs), you can submit a test request form for the affected products to an approved verification service provider of your choice by following the steps below. You can provide this information directly to the third-party verification provider if it meets our policy.
Effective December 6, 2021, sexual enhancement and weight loss dietary supplement products cannot be sold in single- or double-pill packs.
For more details about prohibited dietary supplements go to the Dietary supplements help page.

As of April 8, 2024, the following third-party testing, inspection, and certification verifiers have been approved to verify that products meet our dietary supplements policy:
  • NSF International: For products certified to NSF/ANSI 173 or NSF 229 and that meet our policy requirements. For affected products, follow the steps regarding testing verification below and select NSF International as your third-party provider to complete the compliance process.
Service providers are subject to change. Go to the Manage Your Compliance dashboard for the most up-to-date list of service providers.

Requirements for a certificate of analysis (COA)
This is copied from Amazon, for reference.
One of the required compliance documents for dietary supplements is a certificate of analysis. You must have a finished product certificate of analysis to support the amount per unit or per serving of each active or dietary ingredient claimed on the applicable facts panel. The certificate of analysis that you submit to Amazon must have been issued within the past 12 months, must be a PDF, and must contain the following information, as applicable:
  • Complete product name
  • Batch number, lot number, or date code of the unexpired finished product sample that was tested
  • Name, address, and ISO accreditation number of the laboratory that issues the certificate of analysis or the ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation certificate
  • The laboratory’s authorized representative’s signature, printed name, and title on the certificate of analysis
  • Results from a laboratory assay that’s performed to support the amount per unit or per serving of each active or dietary ingredient claimed on the facts panel, as applicable
  • A reference to the test method used for each dietary ingredient listed. If the test method is novel, not an Association of Official Analytical Chemists official method of analysis, or is a modified version of these, or is in-house, the principle of the method should be stated (such as high performance liquid chromatography or gas chromatography). Actual data and observations should be recorded rather than non-specific “passes” or “conforms” statements. For testing “by input,” see below for information about additional supporting documents.
  • The active or dietary ingredient name or names on the applicable facts panel must match the ingredient name or names on the certificate of analysis.
  • The unit of measure for each active or dietary ingredient on the applicable facts panel (such as g, mg, or mcg) must match the unit of measure on the certificate of analysis.
For sexual enhancement, weight loss and weight management supplements, and sports nutrition, the certificate of analysis must include testing results for the specific compounds as outlined on Dietary supplements. The general certificate of analysis requirements still apply.
The test method must be listed on the certificate of analysis.
We reserve the right to test for additional substances and increase the frequency of testing at any time.
Note: All documents, test reports, or certificates provided to Amazon must be authentic and in their original (unmodified) format.
“By input” method on a certificate of analysis
“By input” method on a certificate of analysis is also known as a quantitative amount by input weight or by input volume.
Established laboratory assays of the finished product should be accomplished whenever possible. If a scientifically valid test method is unavailable, you must provide a certificate of analysis (or additional documentation) from the manufacturing facility for the ingredients used in the manufacture of the finished product. The certificate of analysis must verify that the ingredients used in the manufacture of the finished product meet specifications for identity, purity, strength, or composition without testing, as per 21 CFR 111.75 (d). A valid good manufacturing practice certificate for the manufacturing facility must also be submitted.
Information about proprietary blends
The proprietary blend must be listed on the product label in accordance with 21 CFR 101.36 (c). The certificate of analysis may contain the quantitative amount for the total of the dietary ingredients listed in the proprietary blend. However, if this is not possible, due to the unavailability of a scientifically valid test method for the proprietary blend, you may list the proprietary blend “by input.” If you list the proprietary blend "by input," you must also submit the additional documentation set forth in the section above, “By input” method on a certificate of analysis.
Information about herbal supplements
You must have a certificate of analysis with a laboratory assay or assays for each dietary ingredient if the designated facts panel declares the following:
  • A quantified primary plant constituent or class of constituents (such as common sugars, amino acid, or proteins), except where quantitation of the constituents in the finished product is not possible, in which case you must report the quantities based on input
  • A quantified secondary plant constituent or class of constituents (such as alkaloids, terpenoids, saponins, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, or tannins), except where quantitation of the constituents in the finished product is not possible, in which case you must report the quantities based on input
  • A whole plant ingredient or plant parts such as roots or leaves in a dried state (such as a powder), or any extract thereof, which does not declare any individual constituents. In this case, the certificate of analysis must confirm plant identity.
